It Has Begun....

Got an update from the NJP Bowling Consortium here.

This week was another triumphant effort by all member. We once again took 4 from our opponents. PellBerry led the way with his first 600 series of the season with a nice 602. NJPFellow also had a fine series with a high game of 222. Myself I did not do so well. I started off with a couple of 155 and 156 games. The third game though I scored a nice 246 which helped us solidify the win. We are currently sitting on top of the standing with a 10-2 record. Hopefully we can keep the train rollin. PeelBerry also won a 50/50 raffle.

In an added note from the realm of the fantasy football league, I would just like PeelBerry to know that his win was not at all dominating. If my Seahawks had not blown a 42-3 fourth quarter to give up a total of 30 points, I would have been sure to reign supreme. Oh well though, a long season is still to come.

Well folks there was your update. I will keep all of you guys informed with any developing news.

My new quest...

I have a new quest. I believe it to be noble. I am on a quest to find the greatest recordings of great songs. I won't lie. I am an unabashed Johnny "Darth" Mathis fan and I find many of his recordings to be the end all for many great tunes. Let me see... Johnny owns the title for Chances Are, Misty, When I Give My Heart, Three Times a Lady(the fact that this is only available on tape sucks ass) among others. You pretty much cannot go wrong when it comes to Darth Mathis. His and Ray Charles version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the Genius Loves Company album takes the title for that song.

I also have some picks that fall outside of Dr. Mathis. They are actually pretty oddball. Take the song I Honestly Love You. The best and so far the greatest recording of this song I have come across is sung by a man names Jarrod Emick. It appears on the the soundtrack from the musical The Boy From Oz. Take the time to find it. You won't regret it. Another pick like this is my favorite version of I Just Called to Say I Love You. The song is sung by an artist named Raul Midon and is featured on the album Possibilities by Herbie Hancock. The song even includes a solo by Stevie Wonder on the harmonica.

That is just a few of my picks. I hope to make it a regular posting as find more and more of these greatest recordings. I realize that this is a very subjective concept, so don't let me have all the fun! Post some of your favorites in the comments section. Music is such a wonderful thing. It is completely limitless in scope so the journey never gets old. Have fun exploring...

Pollution Nationwide In Shock Over New Tax Proposal...

You gotta love Al Gore. You really do. This guy is genuinely concerned about the environment. Always has been. Hell, he probably could have swayed a few votes his way if he had let the American Public know about this during the 2000 Presidential Election cycle.

He may have now jumped the shark. According to an article on Reuters here, Gore has presented an idea that we tax carbon dioxide emissions instead of employee payrolls. The only reason I say he may have jumped the shark here is because there are so many holes in a tax plan like this, that to present this as a serious idea cannot be real.

Gore claims it will replace all payroll taxes, including Social Security and Unemployment. He also claims that the overall level of taxation will remain the same. Alright... What happens if companies reduce levels of pollution to a point that the tax revenue from them in almost null and void. Where do you recoup the revenue from? What about companies that have huge payrolls, but small emissions already. Where is that revenue made up? You cannot base a tax plan on an idea that can eventually lead to the taxes reducing to a point that there is not enough money to run the country. I am assuming here(I know I shouldn't, but it's my blog), but I would gather that the only companies would get a break on taxes, not people. I assume that we would still pay out the behind on our checks. So in a backwards way it looks like Gore is telling big companies if they spend some money they can get out of paying some big taxes, while the common man will get no relief. Actually if the companies got their act together our taxes would probably go up to cover the difference.

I know he means well and is admittedly thinking outside the box. This might not be the best way to go about this.

Kitten Cannon

I got bored today and sought out this oldie, but goody. It is a small, pointless game called Kitten Cannon. In it you shoot a helpless orange kitten out of a cannon. The goal is to shoot it as far as possible. You have to watch out for spikes and kitten-eating venus fly traps that will stop the helpless feline cold. To aid in your quest are trampolines, TNT and rockets floating on balloons.

It is very pointless, but very addicting. I believe my best is in the 3000ft range. Challenge it...CHALLENGE IT!!

PLAY IT HERE!!! MASH THAT ORANGE SOB!!

HERE'S AN EDIT...

Playing Kitten Cannon again reminded me that there was a game similar in nature to it that I used to play. It is called Nanaca Crash. It is all in english, but is very anime in nature. It really is a lot cooler. That poor dude on the bike gets f'd in the a!

Success

Well folks, the flagship of the NJP Bowling Consortium, NJP Producions did it again. We collectivly took 4 more points. Sweeping our opponents, the Unpredicctables. This team features a villian that we despise. This man would be kicked out of any bowling establishment that I would run. Or he would have to pay a premium for the potential of wrecking the lanes themselves. He likes to loft the ball up into the ai on hs approach and basically "drops it off the table". It just makes me sick. We still took 4 from them though. Myself, I bowled a 603 series with a 216 high game in the first. The 600 series is not what made me happy though. It was the fact that almost 90% of my first balls knocked down 9 pins. What that tells me is that I was missing by just that little bit. In the second game all of us got identical scores of 188. Somehow I think that is quite n accomplishment. I know that score was not the greatest but the fact that we managed to get the same scores is something else. There were no 50/50 wins. I won 2 of the 3 card games. No one pulled off the high game either.

Hopefully the NJP can continue this roll and just get better as we go.

There really isn't much you can say about this. A well know comic hero of ours has gotten the Kazakhstani Government in quite a tizzy. Just read the article and be amazed about how silly people can really be.

Disappointing

Over the last several weeks I have seen our state's gubernatorial race take a sad turn. As we come down to the stretch run of the race, both candidates have taken there campaigns negative. I have seen the most negative ads from Gov. Granholm's camp. Most of the time a move like this is only made out of desperation, when there is nothing more to do to get votes. That is why this upsets me most. This is a very close race with neither candidate holding a very large lead over the other. Granholm is actually in the lead a bit. Her edge is coming from the women voters who don't feel that DeVos has much to offer them I guess he doesn't really, we just don't know any of his thought on social issues. As I have stated before, his web site which is very informative is very vague on any ideas on how to change the issues he wants to tackle. Granholm also has a problem with not getting across a good solid message about the future. Most of her ads are reminding people of what she has accomplished in the last 4 years.

I cannot completely blame both of the candidates for this. Due to new campaign finance laws, candidates are only able to spend and raise a certain amount of money. With these new laws, we have seen an increase in spending of private organizations. These groups usually are small and very specific with their purposes, attempting to get "their" candidate. While these groups are small. They do have quite a bit of influence.

Well folks, jut a quick commentary about the state of our state.

House of Pain

It is with much sorrow that the duties of informing the wanting masses about the NJP Bowling Consortium's latest exploits. The torch has been passed to I, and I embrace and will do my best to keep you folks up to date.

This last Friday kicked off yet another exciting and fun filled season of bowling. With the unfortunate departure of the BoomCamel the team has picked up a familiar face, NJPFellow. He has bowled with us in the past on this league and others. He is a solid performer who I'm sure will lead us off every week with some quality bowling.

Our first opponents were the same as our last, El Presidente and his minions came to battle us in a rematch of last season's Brawl For it All title match. I started off quite solid with a 228. I found my spot early on and just drove the ball while both PeelBerry and NJP turned in solid performances. The next two games we all turned quality efforts. I believe that we all had mid 500 series. Which really isn't to bad for just getting into the swing of things again. We ended up splitting the points. Gonna be atleast a month maybe even longer before everything really works itself out to see what we are working with. Hopefully we will continue on a good clip and lay waste to the rest of the league.

Until next time...I'm Out Like Nicole..

The Monday Best of Blogger(I think...)

Hmmmmm....

I don't know what to say. I promised a new feature that would bring the best of Blogger to the NJP-ites. Talk about a plan that kind of blew up in my face. That isn't really true because actually there are a ton of funny, bizarre and just plain neat-ass blogs out there. I just found that I couldn't start there because for every one really great blog I find in the wilderness, there seems to be one thousand I can't follow for one reason or another.

I want to start by stating that I am just talking about Blogger. There are a lot of fun blogs I read all the time outside of the realm of blogger. I will save those for another time. What I do want to spend some time dissecting is what happens when you click on this... on the top of this blog. That button is tough on you. It knows that you want to see what the world is thinking, and it is happy to show you. You just have to realize that the world is a lot bigger and funkier place than you might realize.

When I say that it shows you the world, I mean it. I have come to find that probably 7 out of ten clicks of brings me to a page that means nothing to me. It isn't because the blog isn't saying something important or that it isn't very well done. It is because it is saying it in ways I can't understand. I have seen Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, German, and almost every other flavor of blog out there. It is sort of humbling because it shows me that I have a lot to learn. It really brings the world into the world wide web.

Maybe someday I can actually review one of these sites for you but for now I will just hit you with ten links I found literally in the last 18 clicks of the next blog button.

http://rencapatina.blogspot.com
http://joyces-life.blogspot.com
http://dadup.blogspot.com
http://ilovemeco.blogspot.com
http://makkelijkspaans.blogspot.com
http://livroditera.blogspot.com
http://jessemok.blogspot.com/index.html
http://atardecer-centrino.blogspot.com
http://assimsoueu.blogspot.com
http://jerling.blogspot.com

Have fun with that and try to learn something...

This next type of funkiness isn't nearly as endearing or humbling as the blogs of our foreign friends. Probably one or two out of every ten clicks of is an ad. They aren't even very good ads. They are glorified adsense garbage. I can only hope that Blogger can start to do a better job weeding this jibber-jabber out of here. Here are a couple of links just so you can see what I mean. Hopefully, they are the only times you click on something like this...

http://shark.hotdigg.info
http://www.searchadv.com/search.php?aid=60207&q=dental+insurance
http://www.searchadv.com/search.php?aid=60207&q=valium
http://www.searchadv.com/search.php?aid=60207&q=ALPRAZOLAM

So hopefully you can now see why this thing may be more than meets the eye. But, just so you know I am looking I am going to give you a link to a guy who really took this thing by the horns and ran with it.

http://bestestblogofalltime.blogspot.com/

This guy really is using the whole blogger community in a great way. I just might have to add our site to his list!

All I can say is enjoy the randomness of this thing we call the next blog button.

Here we go Again...

It is about that time for The NJP Bowling Confederacy of Bowling Counties to start a new reign of terror. Regrettably, because of my move I can no longer compete on the team. Have no fear though you loyal NJP-ites! In my place I am going to send fellow NJPer, NJP FELLOW.

Also because of lack of being at these events I am going to hand over recapping duties to my man, Shrek. I am confident that he will keep us up to date with his unique prose technique.

Have fun guys, and rock the shit out of em'!!

Why People Hate Politics...

ABC has a huge 9/11 mini-series coming up for this Sunday and Monday night. It deals with the build up to the attacks of 9/11 and how the Clinton and Bush administrations dealt with Bin-Laden and Al-Qaeda. Many officials in the Clinton administration including Clinton himself are up in arms over supposed inconsistencies and falsehoods contained in the piece. Sen. Harry Reid and a few other Democratic Senators, including our own Sen. Stabenow, wrote a letter to Disney chief Robert Iger demanding the whole thing be pulled for being obvious right-wing propaganda.

I understand where they are coming from, but the letter the Senators put out there contains a really dangerous train of thought. Let me quote this so I don't misrepresent this...

"The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events."

You can read the whole letter here.

That is as dangerous as it is laughable. I don't want to get into specific politics here, but can't you see the danger. What is the public interest? I always thought the First Amendment was. Those Senators throwing that veiled threat around makes we worry. Does television now have to be okayed by politicians? I surely hope not. These are the same Senators that were up in arms over a decision a while back by CBS not to show "The Reagans" after a similar hissy fit by Republicans. Now they expect the same treatment because one of their great leaders is besmirched in a television movie. Maybe it is wrong, but maybe it isn't and if ABC doesn't represent this as the gospel they are doing nothing wrong.

Just to let it be known. I support any individual that thinks they have been misrepresented in this film rights to see that harm undone. I cannot not get behind our elected officials passing out threats because shows don't meet their standards. That is not their job, and it is frightening to think they think it is.

In the end it is all very hypocritical on both sides. It has nothing to do with facts or the public interest. It has to do with power and the shaping of our perceptions by those who have it. This is why people hate politics. Because nothing is sincere. If those same Senators spoke out about the Reagan movie then their opinion would hold weight. But they didn't. All they, and the Republicans before them proved, was that nothing really is sacred unless it can keep them in office.

NJP 4 LIFE!!!

Once Again

It has been about a week since my last statement and I figured that it was time to speak again. Since the last post, I have spent a good portion of my time finding out how to get my name on the official ballot, looking at who I would run against and how best to reach the people. My ward is presently represented by our Mayor John Godfrey. This does not bode when for my chance. Yet, if I could some how knock him off that would send a huge message to the rest of the city. I might just be better off running as an "at-large" candidate. Who knows, we still have a long way to go.

After looking in the local news papers I have seen that the race for the Govna's seat is heating up. Granholm appears to have taken a small lead and is especially gaining ground with women. I have also seen more and more commercials for both Granholm and DeVos. DeVos and his camp have apparently spent more than $12 million on advertising while the Dems have only spent about $3.5 million. One of the biggest issues in this battle is the SBT, or Single business Tax. I think that DeVos could have really done without the decision of the state's congress to repeal this tax at the end of 2007, 2 years earlier than was planned. Since this was a major portion of his campaign I cant believe this will at all aid. Also, I have been looking through the whole "Michigan Turn Around Plan" and have to say that while it does point out several of the problems in this state, there are no concrete solutions to these tough problems. When asked about health care costs and what they are costing Michigan, the only response is that DeVos will come up with new and innovative ways to cut costs. As a voter, I don't find this to be an acceptable answer. I think that we need certain answers, not just possibilities. I don't think that Granholm really has a better plan either. Time will only tell. I will delve further into the "Plan", it is quite long and come back with more information. I do applaud DeVos for putting together such a comprehensive document that points out almost all of Michigan's strengths and weaknesses. It is a very interesting and informative read.

No onto my own campaign. With the last post I mainly concentrated on the crime issues that plague us. I think it is also important to look at the local economic policies. I believe that it is important to make this area inviting to ALL business, not just 3 or 4 large companies. If we can diversify our business base we can create more jobs which will only continue to grow and grow. One way of doing this would be making the town more inviting for technology would be making the city WI-Fi. It would definitely draw much more business professionals to the area. Those with an business spirit and the means to grow in what has become a rather stagnant jobs market.

This is just a brief idea. My plans will become more concrete as I continue my research and continue brainstorming to come up with a way to deliver Battle Creek with a better and brighter tomorrow.
Thank You
